Bisnis.com, JAKARTA — PT Internusa Keramik Alamasri (INKA), the manufacturer of Essenza-brand ceramics, has begun utilizing solar energy (solar power plant) to meet the electricity needs of its production facility in Jatiuwung, Tangerang. This use of renewable energy was achieved through the installation of a rooftop solar power plant, carried out in collaboration with PT Xurya Daya Indonesia. The installed solar power system has a capacity of 668.16 kWp, consisting of 928 solar panels covering a 3,860-square-meter area of the factory roof. The system is estimated to supply approximately 20.77% of the factory’s total daily electricity needs over the course of a year. The use of solar-generated electricity is also projected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 727 metric tons of CO₂ per year.
This reduction in emissions is said to be equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of approximately 5,000 trees. Additionally, the resulting emissions savings are said to be equivalent to the electricity used to charge approximately 11,000 electric vehicles. “This collaboration is a tangible manifestation of the company’s sustainability transformation. From the roof of the Essenza factory in Jatiuwung, we are taking the first step toward utilizing renewable energy to become Indonesia’s premier ceramic manufacturer that is increasingly environmentally conscious,” said Mr. Desra Firza Ghazfan, President Director of INKA.
“The installation of these solar panels complements various green initiatives at the Essenza plant, such as the combined-cycle system, which combines two types of turbines in a single process to generate electricity very efficiently. In addition, Essenza is also operating a wastewater treatment system aimed at reducing water consumption,” Mr. Desra added. INKA Chief Executive Officer Irnantio Witoro Hadi stated that the use of renewable energy is part of efforts to integrate clean energy into production activities. The installed solar power system will also be monitored and maintained by Xurya.
In addition to the rooftop solar power plant, Essenza is implementing a number of efficiency and environmental management measures at its production facilities. These initiatives include material reuse, increasing production facility efficiency by up to 50%, and converting waste into energy through the “waste-to-energy” concept. The use of solar energy at the factory is also one of the steps the manufacturing industry is taking to reduce dependence on fossil fuel-based electricity while simultaneously lowering emissions from production activities. INKA states that this initiative aligns with Indonesia’s target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060. For the company, the use of rooftop solar power plants is part of its operational energy efficiency strategy as well as the development of a lower-emission production system. Essenza is a brand of homogeneous tiles marketed in Indonesia and several international markets.
