By Adopting the Green Hotel Concept, Swiss-Belhotel Bogor Cuts Operating Costs by Up to 30 Percent

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Swiss-Belhotel Bogor, West Java, now offers not only comfort and excellent service but also an eco-friendly vacation experience. The property, owned by a subholding of PT Intikeramik Alamasri Industri Tbk (IKAI), has officially strengthened its implementation of a sustainability program focused on energy efficiency, water efficiency, the elimination of single-use plastics, and the use of eco-friendly chemicals.

PT IKAI’s CEO, Desra Ghazfan, emphasized that this is a tangible manifestation of the company’s commitment to implementing the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework. According to him, this step demonstrates that Swiss-Belhotel has adopted standards to measure sustainability impacts and business ethics beyond purely financial aspects.

In line with this, Bernardus Djonoputro, Independent Commissioner of PT IKAI, welcomed the launch of the Circular Laundry and Facility Cleaning Pilot Program—a collaboration between Swiss-Belhotel Bogor and Siklus.

Bernie, as he is commonly known, believes this initiative offers broad ecological benefits, particularly given Bogor’s strategic position as a buffer zone for Jakarta. “This eco-friendly concept automatically not only reduces pollution around the city of Bogor but also has a positive impact on the capital city of Jakarta,” Bernie said in an official statement, as quoted by Kompas.com on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Long-Term and Green Operational Strategies Heru Wibowo, General Manager of Swiss-Belhotel Bogor, explained that the implementation of this green hotel concept is part of the company’s long-term strategy. This step was taken to support the government’s green energy program while aligning the hotel’s operations with international standards. Swiss-Belhotel Bogor is a pioneer within its network in adopting environmentally friendly chemical products from Siklus.

The use of these products covers four vital areas of hotel operations: laundering of linens and room amenities; cleaning of all public facilities; cleaning of food preparation areas and restaurants; and maintenance of hotel furniture and interiors. The products used are formulated to meet hospital-grade standards, ensuring their safety for both guests and employees.

Additionally, approximately 70 percent of the product components are produced locally to support an increase in the use of domestically sourced components (TKDN). Environmental Impact and Cost Efficiency The implementation of eco-green principles at Swiss-Belhotel Bogor has proven to have a tangible impact, both on environmental sustainability and the hotel’s operational efficiency. In terms of financial efficiency, this hotel property is projected to reduce operating costs by up to 30 percent during the 2025–2026 period, with efficiency targets ranging from 40 to 60 percent by 2030.

As a result, the quality of the hotel’s wastewater has improved to a neutral level (pH 7), making it safe for recycling and preventing pollution of the river ecosystems around Bogor. Meanwhile, the use of refillable glass bottles has replaced all plastic bottles in the hotel since early 2025. Through this commitment, PT IKAI and Swiss-Belhotel Bogor are setting a new standard in the national hospitality industry, proving that the lodging business can thrive while preserving the environment’s carrying capacity.
